One year on, Nelly Furtado has the biggest-selling album worldwide

LOS ANGELES/LONDON, July 5, 2007 – With “Loose,” her third album, Canadian singer/songwriter Nelly Furtado has become a global phenomenon: the biggest-selling female recording artist of the past 12 months.

Nelly achieves this milestone while celebrating a highly successful performance on July 1 at the Concert for Diana at London’s Wembley Stadium, seen at the venue by more than 60,000 people, and by a global TV audience of many millions.

Global sales of “Loose” have now passed 5.6 million copies, as the Geffen Records release moves in its second year on Billboard magazine’s two major charts, The Billboard 200 and the European Top 100 Albums. It has reached No. 1 on both countdowns. In Europe this week, the album stands at No. 8.

No other female recording artist has achieved this level of sales during the past year. Meanwhile, Nelly Furtado’s total career album sales to date have passed 12 million units worldwide, following 2000’s “Whoa, Nelly!” (4.9 million) and 2003’s “Folklore” (1.7 million).

With global sales continuing at the rate of 100,000 copies a week, “Loose” has now been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum in 24 countries, and gold in 6 more. The album was released in most territories on June 12, 2006, and eight days later in the U.S. and Canada.

In Switzerland, “Loose” is now in its 56th week on the album charts, followed by Germany and the U.K. (both 55), the U.S., Canada, Netherlands, Norway and Czech Republic (54 weeks), Austria, Finland and Portugal (51), and Denmark (50).
