MIKA releases a one-off limited edition EP of four new acoustic tracks this May in advance of the release of his second album due this Autumn. Mika worked with Owen Pallet from Final Fantasy and Arcade Fire on the EP which features four songs: ‘Blue Eyes’, ‘Toy Boy’, ‘Lonely Alcoholic’ and ‘Lady Jane’.

‘Songs For Sorrow’ will available physically on May 25^th as a beautifully designed book containing a c.d with four brand new MIKA songs. Each song was given to some of Mika’s favourite artists and designers from all over the world who created works of art based on their personal interpretation of the songs. The book features brand new pieces from Peter Blake, Paul Smith, Es Devlin, Jim Woodring, Alber Elbaz (Lanvin), Al Columbia, Sophie Blackall, Jim Medway, David Mackie, Richard Hogg, DaWack, Nilesh Mystry, Kerasacoet, Tao Nyeu, Richard Hogg, Huck Scarry and Walter Van Beirendonck.

In advance of the release of the book. Three of the tracks from ‘Songs for Sorrow’ will be available to download on May 14th exclusively at Mika’s website www.mikasounds.com.

A recent guerilla acoustic show at The Roxy in Los Angeles saw over 1500 people queue for several hours for the 200 available free tickets which Mika personally gave away from his own ice cream van in Beverly Hills.

Mika says “When I rolled my sleeves up and started writing for the second album I thought the best thing to do was take small steps so came up with an EP first. What came out was a collection of acoustic songs called ’Songs For Sorrow’. It was good for me to strip everything back down to just the basics. The idea for the book then came from the lyrics to these songs, which are like dark fairy tales, and I thought it would be brilliant to get illustrations to go with them and to get some of my favourite artists to give their own interpretation on the stories.”

Mika will release his second studio album later this year. Written and co-produced by Mika the new studio album has been two years in the making and was recorded between London and Los Angeles. Mika’s debut album ‘Life In Cartoon Motion’ has now sold over 5 million copies worldwide and has earned him a host of Platinum disks all over the world, a Brit Award and Grammy nomination.
